We all knew,
What’id do,
When I took those shots with you,
We both wound up passed out onto the floor.
And I didn’t know what to say,
When you said “My love or your Cocaine”,
So I said “to hell with that”,
And began to drink away.
When I took that blow,
Up my nose,
I thought of all my past loves,
And how none of them ever seemed to work for me,
…And I knew it wouldn’t feel so right,
For me to stop now, and change my life,
So I just let her go… I let her leave.
When she left, she said
“It’s the whiskey,
Cocaine
And Tennessee,
You love them,
more than you love me.”
I said,
“Yes,
that Jack,
Jim Beam
and Hennessey,
Is all I really need,
To walk a line..
But what I’m really wantin’,
Is my sweet,
Cocaine Caroline.”
Now I’m on this highway,
Not knowing where to go,
When I sold my soul,
To the devil on music road.
And when I got done with that,
I asked to meet Johnny Cash,
To see how he got rid of Cocaine Caroline.
And what he said was:
“It’s not the weed,
Pills,
Or the speed,
We need
To walk the line,
All we needed on our sides,
Was good Ole … Cocaine Caroline.
