The Beautiful Deception: Twelve Years of Darkness

A few weeks ago, one of my daughters asked me about the devil’s appearance. I could tell she had picked up on some rumors about some of the things I’ve been through in my past. “The most beautiful sight you’ll ever see,” I told her, knowing that this answer barely scratched the surface.
It’s important to understand that the devil isn’t just an external force. He can take root within anyone. He starts with subtle whispers that distort reality, turning falsehoods into our truth. The devil’s darkness feeds our ego, leading us to believe in our own perfection while magnifying everyone else’s flaws.
He’s the voice that justifies our worst behaviors—defending betrayal, enabling heartless manipulation, and condoning brazen dishonesty without a flicker of guilt. The most dangerous aspect is how the devil makes these transgressions feel not only reasonable but also desirable.
The devil can warp your perception so completely that you begin to doubt your own mind. She appears in countless guises—sometimes as an adversary, sometimes as an ally—adapting her approach to whatever grants her access. Even piety can disguise her, molding itself to any situation.
For twelve years, I shared my life with this darkness. When I spoke of encountering the devil, I was referring to someone we both know. This woman embodied the malevolence that surrounded me for all those years.
The devil understands our inner workings with frightening precision, twisting our perceptions until harmful paths seem beneficial and virtuous choices appear foolish. Though the devil’s pleasures may feel intense in the moment, they are hollow compared to genuine spiritual connection. Despite her significant power, this darkness cannot extinguish the divine spark that exists within all of us—the divine spark of God.
