Balancing… Home Life vs. Work Life

How do you balance work and home life?

Balancing home and work life requires careful attention to boundaries and routines. After long shifts surrounded by the sounds of industrial saws and the earthy scent of cut lumber, I create deliberate transitions between worlds, A shower and a change of clothes immediately upon returning home and always grab me a beer… Always 1 beer a day. Doctor said it’s good for my heart and less addictive than a 12 pack of beer a day… lol. Anyways back to the subject… The physical demands of mill work mean I prioritize rest and recovery during off-hours, while still making space for family meals and meaningful conversations if I don’t drift off to sleep first (at almost 49, I found napping to be a comfortable hobby) … I’ve developed systems for household tasks, completing them in concentrated bursts rather than letting them consume my entire weekends. The sawmill’s shift schedule sometimes conflicts with family events or personal needs, especially when the mechanics are needed for projects that require overtime to complete. Despite these challenges, I take pride in contributing to an essential industry while maintaining a fulfilling personal life beyond the mill gates.
