What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
…My favorite thing about myself is how I can make the grotesque funny. I have this weird talent for taking absolutely disgusting, disturbing, or uncomfortable things and somehow finding the humor in them that makes everyone laugh instead of gag.
Dead possum on the side of the road? I’ll come up with a backstory about how it was probably late for a very important meeting. Someone’s describing their horrific medical procedure in graphic detail? I’ll find the one absurd angle that makes the whole room crack up instead of turning green. Family dinner gets awkward when someone brings up Uncle Bob’s toe fungus situation? Suddenly I’m doing a whole comedy routine about it.
It’s like I have this internal filter that automatically translates “absolutely revolting” into “surprisingly hilarious.” I can take the most cringe-worthy, nauseating stories and somehow make them digestible … pun intended. People will be telling me something that should make me lose my appetite, and instead I’m finding ways to make them laugh about it.
The weird part is, I don’t even try to do this. It just happens automatically. My brain sees something gross and immediately starts writing comedy material. It’s like having a built-in defense mechanism against being grossed out … if I can make it funny, it can’t traumatize me.
I’m basically a human garbage disposal for uncomfortable situations, except instead of getting rid of them, I turn them into entertainment. Give me your most disgusting story and I’ll hand it back to you as comedy gold.
