What makes a teacher great?
To me, a great teacher is someone who knows their stuff but also knows how to make it make sense. They can take complicated ideas and break them down in a way that actually clicks, tying it back to things that matter in the real world. But it’s not just about knowledge, they care about their students as people. They see us for more than our grades, noticing our strengths, struggles, and how we learn best. You can feel when a teacher genuinely believes in you, and that makes all the difference.
The best teachers I’ve had were flexible and real. If something wasn’t working, they didn’t just power through… they changed it up until it made sense. They got us thinking, not just memorizing. They asked the kind of questions that stuck with you and made you want to dig deeper. They expected a lot, but gave us the tools and support to get there. And their passion? You could feel it. Whatever the subject, their energy made you want to care too. The teachers I’ll never forget are the ones who saw learning as a two-way street, like we were all in it together, figuring things out side by side.
