Why I’m Asleep When You’re Awake (And Awake When You’re Asleep)

Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.

😳 … This is going to sound ridiculous, but the thing that brings the most joy to my daily life is getting up at 2am every morning to drink my coffee and wander around my blogs aimlessly. There’s something about starting with a refreshed mind in those quiet hours when the world is still asleep that just feels magical. But honestly, it’s really two things that create this joy … it’s also going to bed at 7 or 7:30 in the evening (plenty of time to sleep in if I want to sleep in, I don’t have to be at work till 6 on weekdays).
I know that sounds crazy, and I’m probably weird for living on this schedule, but it’s genuinely what I enjoy most. While everyone else is sleeping … I have this perfect window of time where my thoughts are clear, my coffee is hot, and I can just explore my “creative spaces” without any distractions. πŸ₯° … It’s like having the whole world to myself, and I wouldn’t trade those early morning hours for anything.

  1. I once had someone suggest I must be on drugs because of this schedule β€” because apparently the only reason someone would choose to be awake at 2am is substance abuse, not the pure joy of having the world to myself with hot coffee, music and my creative freedom. Some people just can’t fathom that weird can also be wonderful.

  2. I completely get it, Emmitt. I don’t get up quite as early as you, my internal clock is set for 5 am. But I love my quiet coffee time in the morning πŸ™‚

  3. That’s the best time of day, where the silence gives your mind space to create..I love being up first just wandering, writing, contemplating and experiencing the silence.

  7. I get up 4 hours before my family each day. Partly because I am an early riser. But mainly because I love the mornings to myself and the time to reflect on my own before the chaos of life takes over. I sleep less, but my body does not seem to mind. It might catch up to me someday.
