Buzzard Dust Mixtapes Opens Submissions to Independent & AI Songwriters — and Appalachian Storytellers

BUZZARD ROOST, Ala. — If you’ve been writing songs and wondering where they belong, Buzzard Dust Mixtapes may have the answer.

The independent mixtape series is now accepting music submissions from songwriters, musicians, and even AI creators looking for a home for their work.

Whether your song was recorded in a professional studio, on a front porch with an old guitar, or created with the help of artificial intelligence, organizers say they’re interested in hearing it.

“Have you wondered where you’d release your songs?” said the Buzzard Dust team. “This is the place.”

Buzzard Dust Mixtapes celebrates original storytelling across country, folk, bluegrass, Americana, Southern rock, blues, gospel, outlaw country, novelty songs, spoken word, and other roots-inspired genres. The goal is simple: give independent creators a place to be heard.

Music Submission Guidelines

• Songs must be original works or submitted by someone who has the legal right to distribute them.
• AI-assisted and AI-generated songs are welcome.
• Human-written songs are equally encouraged.
• Cover songs are also welcome.
• Excessively hateful, discriminatory, or illegal content will not be accepted.
• Songs must meet the Folk, Americana, Regional, Country rooted themes of the Buzzard Dust Mixtapes. No outside genres.
• Multiple submissions are welcome.
• Include the song title, artist name (or pen name), lyrics if available, and any information you’d like listeners to know.
• By submitting, you confirm that you own or control the rights to the material and grant Buzzard Dust Mixtapes permission to feature your submission if selected.

There is no submission fee, and creators of every experience level are encouraged to participate.

Whether you’ve written one song or one hundred, Buzzard Dust Mixtapes hopes to become a gathering place for independent voices that don’t always fit the mold of commercial radio.

Buzzard Dust Mixtapes Also Seeking Appalachian Stories for Publication

In addition to music submissions, Buzzard Dust Mixtapes is opening its doors to writers with a connection to Appalachia. Organizers say they’re looking for stories rooted in the region — its people, places, traditions, and way of life — for possible publication on http://www.emmittowens.com.

“There’s no shortage of good stories in these hills,” organizers said. “We want to give some of them a place to be read.”

Story Submission Guidelines

• Stories must be original works, or submitted by someone with the legal right to share them.

• Multiple submissions are welcome.
• Include the story title, author name (or pen name), the story itself, and any background information you’d like readers to know.
