The Art of You

…begin with static—
that hum between radio stations
where your soul lives
      you are verb.action.becoming
a living algorithm of choice/mistake/choice again
coded in the language of maybe
    (parentheses hold your secrets)
[brackets frame your fears]
{curly braces embrace your contradictions}
         DNA → RNA → protein → YOU
the biological poetry
of existence refusing
                    to
                        rhyme
scattered like:
  bread crumbs
   coffee stains
    love letters never sent
     appointments missed
      dreams on repeat
       your timeline scrolls infinite—
birth.first.word.heartbreak.triumph.repeat
a Netflix series
with no season finale
       you exist in:
– fragments
– run-on sentences that never quite end because there’s always more to say about the way you laugh when you’re nervous or how you collect moments like some people collect stamps
– questions?
– !exclamations!
           ERROR 404: perfection not found
but the glitch is gorgeous—
   pixelated, authentic,
    beautifully broken code
you are:
    UPPERCASE when angry
     lowercase when tender
      MiXeD cAsE when confused
       silent when words fail
the art of you defies galleries,
spills beyond frames,
lives in the spaces between
what was typed
             and what was meant
          save.document.
        but you’re already
      auto-updating
    becoming.exe
running in the background…

    1. 😮 … Jean!!! I just found you on Amazon 🙂 Now I’m going to have to read one of your books 🙂 What’s your best book? Which one would you recommend? Genre don’t matter; I read everything.

      1. Oh, thank you so much for your interest, Emmitt 🙂 It’s hard to say which one is best. I feel like as I write more books, they improve, like anything else. The newest are Frankie’s Heart, All the Broken Places, The Little Things, and King of Hearts. Maybe one of those?
