New Music Friday: “Walk” — Finding Your Way Back Home

Some songs are written to entertain.

Others are written because they have to be.

“Walk” is one of those songs.

It isn’t about perfection. It isn’t about pretending to have all the answers. It’s about looking back at where life has taken you—the mistakes, the grace, the people who kept believing in you—and realizing that home isn’t just a place. It’s a way of living.

The opening lines set the tone:

“I was born in borrowed thunder,
raised on grace and Sunday wonder…”

Those words reflect an upbringing shaped by faith, small-town values, and the quiet beauty of ordinary places. They also acknowledge something many people know well: life has a way of pulling us away from those foundations.

Later in the song, that struggle becomes more personal:

“The bottle called and I went running,
spent my nights on something numbing…”

Rather than hiding from regret, “Walk” faces it honestly. The song doesn’t glorify brokenness, but it doesn’t ignore it either. It recognizes that growth often begins by admitting where we’ve been and choosing a different road.

Throughout the lyrics, images of slow creeks, tall timber, front porches, and open meadows paint a picture of the Appalachian landscape—not just as scenery, but as a symbol of peace, belonging, and hope.

At its heart, “Walk” asks a simple question:

For me, the answer isn’t found in fame or fortune. It’s found in loving people well, finding gratitude in ordinary mornings, and leaving this world with enough light still burning inside to help someone else along the way.

The closing chorus says it best:

“We’re all dust beneath the endless spin,
I wanna die with some light left within,
broken and grateful, going home the way I came.”

That line captures the spirit of Buzzard Dust Mixtapes. The project isn’t just about making music. It’s about telling honest stories rooted in Appalachian life, faith, redemption, and the enduring beauty of rural America.
